Step 1: Pre-license courses

To start these courses, you must be at least 18 years old.
The pre-licensing course consists of 48 hours. You will need to complete 48 hours that focus on real estate. Apart from real estate knowledge, these hours will ensure that you have all the material necessary to pass the real estate exam.

The pre-licensing courses cover principles, practices, regulations and laws of real estate. For the most part, they touch on such content:

Step 2: Missouri Real Estate Practice

You will also need to complete 24 hours of the Missouri real estate practice (MREP) class.

Please note that you cannot complete this class before 48 hours of pre-licensing courses. But, you can complete it before or after the Missouri state licensing exam.

Once you have completed both courses, with total 72 hours, you must take and pass the final course exam with a score of 75% or higher.

You do not need to take the exam in the presence of a proctor.

Step 3: Missouri real estate examination.

The most important step is passing the state licensing exam. The state licensing exam is administered by PSI.

Step 4: Background check

You must also pass a criminal background check to prove that you have not been convicted of felonies in the past. Nonetheless, if you have, that might prevent you from getting your real estate license.

How much does it cost to become a real estate agent in Missouri?

To obtain a real estate license in Missouri, you are required to pay these fixed fees:

  • Application Fee: $50
  • License Issuance Fee: $40)
  • Examination Fee: $68

How hard is the Missouri real estate exam?

The Missouri real estate exam is a knowledge test. Thus, it tests the knowledge you have gained during the pre-exam courses. Studying is the key. If you master the professional material, you will not have any difficulties.

The real estate exam contains 140 question: 100 questions for the national portion and 40 questions for the state portion.

You must get 70 correct answers to pass the national portion, and 30 correct answers to pass the state portion. You will have 4 hours to finish the test.

If pass one portion of the examination, but fail the second one, you will only need to retake the failed portion.
