To get your architect license you should apply to the Missouri Board of architects through the Missouri Division of Professional Registration:

  • Firstly you should meet the education requirements. Obtain at least a bachelor’s degree from a National Architectural Accrediting Board accredited university.
  • Secondly, complete an Intern Development Program. The Board accepts programs administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

After that, pass the Architect Registration Exam. The exam also should be administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Now you are ready to apply for your license. Feel the application form. Submit all the required documents and you will become a licensed architect in the state of Missouri.

How long does it take to get an architect license in Missouri?

The Board reviews the applications as soon as they are submitted. But, the processing time varies as there can be missing documents or steps.

But, before you may be qualified to apply for an architect license you should spend up to 8 years. You should graduate from a university and have at least a bachelor’s degree. Then complete an IDP. And, that takes 3 years.

To renew your license you should complete 24 Continuing Education requirements. At least 16 hours of which should be HSW related. You may take the courses online. The Board accepts courses registered with the American Institute of Architects.

Do architects have to be licensed in the state of Missouri?

In short, yes. You cannot work legally in the state of Missouri without an architect license. So, before practicing architecture in the state you should meet the requirements established by the Board. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards is trying to create national standards and programs. This is to make the reciprocal licensure easier.
